Springtime Sally

Here is my latest dolly. She is quite a bit bigger than the last few I have done. She measures 21″ head to toe and her shoulders are 4″ wide. She is made from cloth and clay. These dolls are fun to make but the whole process takes 2 or 3 days for me and there are so many steps.

I like her long neck and stiff posture. If only I could sit up that straight!

Jane, I love this doll. Looking at the auction in another browser window. Where did you learn to do this? It is beautiful.

Thanks Tammy,
I have been making cloth dolls for awhile now…Adding the paperclay is new to me. This is my 4th or 5th doll like this I think. You can probably see that the face looks a lot like the faces on my angel paintings…it is like bringing the paintings to life…like painting with clay. A woman in the doll group I am in gave pointed me in the right direction by giving me a few tips about working with paperclay like, dry it in an oven every 1/4 in at 200 degrees…
Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, I saw that your bids were big on her! I am happy for you…see maybe you can make more dollies and still support you family. Good for you. I am still getting pennies for mine, but I am learning and hopefully getting better as I go.
Still having fun though and that’s what counts.
Have a good one,
Jenny

Thanks Jenny! Your dolls ARE getting better and better all the time! It is so fun to watch you change and grow. Ya know, if you do anything often you’ll get good at it. I like to look at my paintings from even 3 years ago…when I compare it to what I’m up to now the progress is awesome. Keep on keepin on!
